Mudcloth Purse - Chestnut

Regular price £36.00 Sale

This customary tribal cloth of Mali is made using traditional methods. Strips of hand woven cotton are stitched together into a whole cloth, then hand painted using natural dyes, including fermented river mud and decomposed leaves and twigs. This cloth is repeatedly painted, rinsed and dried until the dyes have taken, which can take a number of weeks. All Mudcloth is sourced ethically, meaning the Artisans are paid fairly and set their price.

These purses are handmade by Mim, Wicker and Weft owner, using organic cotton thread, organic cotton backing then lined with a heavy natural linen. Each is finished with a sustainably sourced wooden engraved tag bearing the Wicker and Weft name and a strong metal zipper (aged bronze for the chestnut purses, and brass for the white purses).

Each purse is unique due to the handmade nature of the Mudcloth - please note that the photos are for illustrative purposes and the pattern on the purse you receive will vary. The strips of Mudcloth are sewn together in a rustic style and this, together with any imperfections in the purses should be seen as a beautiful reflection of their handmade nature.

Size:

Each purse is approximately 20cm x 13cm: the perfect size to accommodate phone, keys and essentials; or to keep your everyday make up together; or to house reading glasses...there are many uses for these practical sized purses!

Care:

Can be handwashed in cold water with a mild detergent. Please note that while the Mudcloth has been prewashed, due to the natural dyes used, the colour may fade with washing or simply over time. The wooden tab should be dried as quickly as possible and may lose some of its colour.
